Serena Dasaro: Gymnastics

Despite a severe back injury, Serena has displayed an amazing life skill of perseverance and initiative to improve her gymnastics skills. Despite taking a year off from gymnastics to focus on her recovery, Serena still retained her passion and love for gymnastics. She consistently works hard during practice and goes above and beyond by taking extra private lessons beyond team practice to improve her skills. For these reasons, I am proud nominate Serena as Athlete of the Month!

Izzy Heckman: Girls Soccer

Izzy has committed to Murray State as an outside back after having played that position at Harrison the previous three years as the starter.

This year, Izzy has been asked to not only be a captain of the team, but to also change positions and play up front as our center forward in the attack. This is a huge change of position that she has accepted with a smile while also trying to lead a young team of twenty five girls with only two seniors.

Izzy has sacrificed her comfort zone position for the good of the team and has performed admirably despite never having played center forward before and once again has the Lady Hoyas in position for another chance at a region championship.

Beth Baxter: Girls Tennis

Being a freshman, Beth has been asked to step into a starting role for our Lady Hoya tennis team and while she doesn’t have the strongest strokes at this time, she makes up for it with her heart and will to win. This year, there’s been several matches that she had to play from behind before coming back to win. With a “never say die” attitude, Beth has been complimented by her doubles partners who’ve said that she simply stays calm and tells them “don’t worry, we’ll get the next point” Coach Stewart states, “Beth has more mental toughness than any player I’ve seen in a lot of years. I truly admire her perseverance.”

Bristol King: Girls Lacrosse

Bristol is a 4 year varsity player in the women’s lacrosse program who has tremendously aided our program in the past, and most importantly, this year. After losing 12 seniors last year, 9 of which were primary starters, our program started the year with a new crop of players on the field. As a returning starter, Bristol assumed a large leadership role and constantly works to help this group improve each and every day. She leads by example with her work ethic and attitude and never gives up. She is currently one of our primary stat leaders in goals scored, ground balls and draw control. Bristol gives it 110% the entire game and rarely ever comes off the field, playing midfield (and running the field the entire time). She is always focused and keeps her teammates the same, and it is because of these reasons I nominate Bristol King as Athlete of the Month.
